In 1986 a friend from the fire brigade, Andy Dugard, asked me if I wanted to go training with him at Worcester rugby club, I hadn't played since my school days at Old Swinford 20 years previously and anyway who starts playing rugby at 36?
I went and had a run around on the old 4th team pitch, obviously avoiding the tree, and Derek Thompson said to me "you have played before" I told him my story and he asked me to come along and have a game that Saturday, I did and played regularly for the next lO years.
I made some great friends and had some great times at the club and on tours. I coached minis and juniors when my son Lee started playing and went on to referee with NMSRFR for a further lO years until I moved to Scotland but at 5 O'clock on a Saturday afternoon I get on the net and check to see how the 1st XV have got on and where they are in the league. I think once WRFC gets under your skin you are hooked for life. It's great to see the new club facilities developing and that the amateur pheonix has risen and is going from strength to strength, well done to the committee.
